Salvadoran colon is the official currency of El Salvador. It was named after Christopher Columbus. It is subdivided into 100 centavos. The international currency code of the El Salvadoran colon is SVC.

 

Since 2001 it has been pegged to the United States dollar in a rate of 8.75 colons for one dollar.

 

The first Salvadoran colon replaced the peso in 1919.

 

Banknotes in circulation have nominal values of 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 and 200 colons.

 

Coins are in denominations of 1, 2, 3, 5, 10 and 25 centavos and 1 colon.
